Norwich

Norwich is a city found in the region of East Anglia in the country of Norfolk.  It is about 180km away from the city of London and a great place to book a hotel if you want to explore the North Norfolk Coast and the Broads.

Compared to more populous areas of England, Norwich has a small population of around 125,000.  It is one of the most culturally rich cities in England due to the fact that it still has many medieval buildings.

The best way to get into Norwich by car is by taking the A14, A11, or M11 unless you are coming from London in which case the best routes are the A140 and the A12.  Parking within the city is expensive and limited, but there six car parks that receive service from six bus lines making it easy to park and ride into the city.

Alternatively, you can travel into Norwich by bus, air, or train if you wish although out of the three the train is the least convenient although possible.  This is due to the fact that there is only one train station in Norwich which means you will need to take a handful of public transportation options to get across the city depending on the location of your hotel.

Once inside the city of Norwich walking and cycling are very popular ways to get around the city.  Those that need to get to the entertainment district, airport, or university can use the city buses which run on a regular basis but can be a bit pricey at almost two pounds a trip.  For this reason, if you choose to use the bus to navigate on your holiday you should consider purchasing a day pass.

While in Norwich you will want to make sure you visit at least a few of the medieval, cultural historical landmarks such as Dragon Hall, Norwich Cathedral, the Forum, and the Norwich Castle Museum and Art Gallery.

Additionally, you should make an effort to attend a show within the Norwich theatre district which is known for its excellence.  There are several venues that regularly show productions including the Maddermarket Theatre, Norwich Theatre Royal, and the Norwich Puppet Theatre.

For an engaging visit to Norwich you also might consider booking a hotel in May, during which time the annual Norfolk and Norwich Festival is held.  For a truly raucous time the month of October is best since the annual Norwich & Norfolk CAMRA Beer Festival is held.

Those who enjoy shopping will not be disappointed during a holiday in the area either since Norwich packs a punch as a retail shopping centre. It is widely regarded as one of the best shopping towns in England due to the presence of both the Chapelfield Mall and the Castle Mall.

Within the city centre there is also the Norwich market, which is the largest permanent market that is held outdoors across Europe.  As a result it is one of the most attractive city markets in the UK.
